From Skinner's Lab to K9 Operations

- Joint Forces K9 Group

Do you want to be part of a truly unique K9 workshop?
On October 24 and 25 2026, Bob Bailey and Simon Prins will come together in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, for what may be one of the most remarkable educational events in the K9 world.
This is not a standard dog training seminar. It is a journey through more than 80 years of operational animal training and learning science. Starting with the groundbreaking work of Keller and Marian Breland, who brought the science of behavior out of B.F. Skinner’s laboratory and into the real world, we will follow the evolution of modern animal training all the way to today’s operational K9 programs, including laser guided dogs, radio directed camera dogs, hard surface tracking, and technology supported detection training.
Throughout the workshop, we will connect the science with practical application. You will learn the fundamental principles that make animal training successful, while exploring advanced concepts in detection dog training. Topics include developing data driven training systems, calibrating operational detection dogs, building objective performance standards, and implementing practical double blind training that is both reliable and comfortable for trainers and handlers.
This is not just a lecture. Participants will have the opportunity to receive live coaching on stage, covering topics such as basic detection training, passive indications, targeting, reinforcement timing, bridging techniques, observation skills, and handler mechanics. Every demonstration is designed to translate behavioral science into practical skills you can immediately apply.
Perhaps the most unique part of this workshop is the interaction between Bob Bailey and Simon Prins. After working together for more than three decades, they will share personal stories, lessons learned, successes, failures, and insights that have never before been presented publicly.
Whether you train detection dogs, operational K9s, service animals, or simply want to become a better trainer, this workshop will challenge the way you think about learning, performance, and the future of animal training.
Join us for two unforgettable days where history, science, operational experience, and practical coaching come together in one exceptional event. This is more than a workshop. It is an opportunity to learn from two generations of innovators who helped shape modern K9 training.
